They're going to do a burn on my hunting spot, so I guess that takes care of my hunting for this year. For those of you that don't live in Florida, they occasionally burn the palmetto underbrush and the hogs go the other way for a few months until it grows back. Oh well, at least I still have targets to shoot.

More likely the deer will be the first observable game to return.  The hogs will likely be next year as you surmise.  Good luck.  Let us know.

I'll live I guess. But it was nice being able to hunt again. Because of my handicap I need just the right situation in order to hunt. But I found that spot a few years back, and eventually I'll find another. I just wished they had burned it early in the spring instead of waiting till now.

You'd be amazed just how quickly game returns to a burned over area. If there are oaks it might be as soon as before the smoke clears. They'll be back to eat those now uncovered acorns and just cuz they are now roasted doesn't mean they won't eat them. Some trees might still have acorns on them that will drop fresh onto the now bare ground.

Underneath the burned ground there are plenty of live roots and so for hogs to root for and so don't be surprised if they too show up. Now it really all depends on the particular area and what's there how soon game returns but it's really not that rare to see deer and other big game animals roaming around there even before the smoke clears.

GB, you are absolutly right about that. When younger we used to hunt the new growth in cut or burned over areas up home.
