Encore 12 gauge barrel

I am going back in forth between the 12 gauge encore turkey barrel and the regular 12 gauge barrel with the ventilated rib. If you have the ventilated rib version of shotgun barrel can you still mount a scope to it? Or does anyone use that replaceable bead system I saw on the EABCO website? Any suggestions?

I bought the 12 ga. vent rib last year for turkey season and the occasional trap shoot. I searched the internet for a mount for the Trijicon red dot and could not find one. I also called T\C and ask them if they made a rib mount for a red dot. They told me no because it would put too much pressure on the rib and strip out the screws. So, I just bought a vent rib fiber optic clip on for turkey season. It worked well for early morning.

The barrel is very accurate for trap shooting....and I also use it for pheasant hunting\shooting.

So....that's what i can tell you about the vent rib TC barrel. I hope this helps.

BTW...if you can give me the link to the product on EABCO I would appreciate it. I've searched the site and can't find the bead system you are referring to.

I have a 26" 12 gauge barrel and I'll say it's ok, but I prefer My Ithaca Pump.  I bought it for the muliple barrel purpose.

The 26" VR will not shoot correctly for turkey hunting without installing some kind of sight, based on my testing.

The barrel shoots ok at clay targets, which is all I have shot with it other than Turkey loads. 

I picked it up on sale for the vesitility as I have gone on some hunts where I wish I could have had a shotgun to switch too.

That's too bad about your barrel. I'd contact TC about that one. My VR rib goes exactely where you point it. For turkey, look right down the rib and put the bead on it's eye and squeeze. The pattern will be centered right on it's eye. So...when I take it turkey hunting, I aim right at the base of the neck.

What distance did you pattern your barrel?

I patterned mine from the bench at 40 yards (where I usually pattern Turkey Guns) and it was high, which is pretty common for a gun setup for wing shooting as other shotguns I have owned with a high rib have not been suitable.  I did seem to find a load that was better than others-I can't remember right now, I marked the box, but it seemed pickier that others.  I tried a couple different chokes too.

The Pattern was fine, just not to point of aim.  So I figured just add a set of the Tru Glo Add on sights for Turkey Hunting.  I really did it more as an experiment, as I have plenty of other guns to take Turkey Hunting.

Which stock do you have?  I have the Regular Pro Hunter Flextech.

I pattern mine from 40 yards as well. I bought one of these Lyman fiber optic http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=635412&t=11082005 snap on the vent rib sights for those low level light mornings.

The only problem was....with this gizmo....when I "lined up" with this on...my gun would now shoot high!!!  So....my "fix" for it was.....I cut the sight in half. I snapped the orange fiber optic part on the front of the vent rib (I took off the factory bead) and the "other half" (which was nothing more than a hollow peep sight type of tube) I snapped on the rear of the vent rib....(close to my eye....if this is making any sense).

Now....All I had to do was look thu the rear "peep" and put the fiber optic on the target...and squeeze.

BTW.....I am also using the Carlson turkey choke tube on the barrel. However, the "stock" full choke TC patterend the same place....but just not tightly enough for my satisfaction. I am shooting Hevi-shot #4.

Finally got around to looking at the shells I have.  Most are Winchester 3" 4/5/6 copper plated lead, which shoots great out of my Mossberg 9200.  Those were the loads that didn't shoot that great in the T/C, but I do have a box of Hevi Shot that someone gave me that I tried, and I think it was the best BUT I CANT find my notes DANG IT.  So I guess try it again when the time comes.

I just hate the cost of the Hevi Shot.
