357 Mag -- Range Report
« on: September 11, 2008, 02:48:46 PM »
Got to take the new to me 357 Mag barrel to the range tonight just to see what she could do . I set 2 sheets of printer paper to get the sight picture as this one doesn't have a scope yet .

I only took 2 diffrent loads with me for now , the 110g Sierra JHP and the 180g cast RN that I got from my buddy Shaner ( Thanks Shane ) , once I got the sights down I set up a couple 3x5 cards to see what it would do , here are the results .

Not too shabby for a guy that hates Iron Sights , now to see what she can do with some glass , if that goes well its off to Gary Reeder for a rechamber to 358GNR . ( 445 Super Mag necked down to 357 )

PS -- Can shoot with just about anything but a Digi Cam , sorry about the fuzzy pics .  ;D

I must admit , I was totally impressed with how well it shot , the key was figgering out the sights and were to hold them , whole lot diffrent than a pistol thats for sure .  ;D

I was there for just under 2 hours and only fired 50 rounds , spent lots of time getting things lined up , take 1 shot then grab the binox , you get the idea .

Once the glass goes on its out to 100 and that will be the true test .  ::)

Did I say I was IMPRESSED , did also notice that the recoil was quite a bit diffrent between the 2 rounds .  ::)

Nice shootin'! I get similar groups with the factory irons at 50 yards on my .357. I, too am waiting for some glass to come in (Leupold Rifleman 2x7x33 on backorder, due in October).

I'll post a range report once I get it mounted.

I was at work and I could not see the pictures. I am at home now, lookin' good. The cast group is very impressive. I have not tried 110 grain bullets in mine, but I could not get the 125's I had to group very well at all. The 158's I tried did better about 2" at 50 yards. I have not worked with it a whole lot. Looks like you will not have to work with yours much at all. Are you sure you want to pump it up as well as it is shooting? ::)

Good going Richard!  I'm more than happy with mine.  It's a factory barrel on a used frame and shoots one ragged hole 5 shot groups at 50 off the bench with 158 gr. JSPs and a scout pistol scope.  I really don't know what it will do at 100, because I just want it for close in work and never tried it.  I popped a skunk at about 80 a little while ago, but a skunk is large compared to a 50 yard tight group ;)
Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.

Thats really good shooting. Iron sights really do put things back to the basics.
