I had a 24" Encore barrel that Loved 55gr Vmax's over H335 with Winchester brass and WSR primers. The load was near Book max. 3/4" 3 shot Groups @ 100 yards were very Comman.
It also Liked Hornady 50gr SPSX Over IMR-4198 with Winchester cases and WSR primers . That load was a Mid Book load.
Best 3 shot group was 5/8"  @ 100 yards Avergage was about an 1" though.
Get a Book  start Low and work up .  Be safe!

My favorite load for a 1 - 9" twist Rem 700-P in 223 was 23.5grs H322, 60gr Sierra HP Varminters and CCI Bench rest small rifle primers.

This load would constantly give me 1 3/8" X 1 1/2" 300 yard 10 shot groups.

Sold the rifle last week it was just to heavy to pack around...

There is a wide variety of powders that work well in a 223. I like powders on the faster side for light bullets (50 and under) and slower types for the heavier bullets. Not very many people use it, but I have had very good results with VV N133 with a 50 grain V Max ignited by a Remington 7 1/2 primer. Some get good results with W748, BL C2, H335, AA2460, TAC, BenchMark, Varget, H322 just to name a few. You are going to have to try different powders and bullets to find out what your barrel likes. I start load development with a bullet appropriate for the application, and work up with a likely powder. If not getting the results I want, I then try a different powder and work up again. After trying several powders and not getting the results I want, I switch bullets and start again. With a cartridge like the 223 where there are lots of combinations that can work well, you may have a lot of load development going on or you may hit it right away. Good Luck and Good Shooting.

I haven't been on in a while because of a problem I got rid of. I have half a dozen good loads for the 223 Encore that will all do under 1/2 at 100.  If you would like them PM me and I will send them to you.  If you go to Ammo Guide and look around I think you will find an abundance of loads you can use. Cost about 20 bucks to join but there is over 700 loads for the 223 there. You can go in an browse and see what it all about. will show you everything but the powder charges. I use H335, Benchmark, and AA 2015. I have Varget but haven't tried it yet. If you want a great shooting Ammo try the Hornday 40 gr Vmax. I've sold my 223 but now have a new Pro Hunter in 708 but my brother's still does great with them. I've built a 700VS in 223 and made a tack driver out of it.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.  If it breaks make it better next time.

40 grain Nosler over the max load of BL-C2. 3400fps and teeny tiny itsy bitsy little groups. Will also kill groundhogs that are way out there very verey far. The farthest I've got one was 330 yards. And for the rolling hills of SW Pa.....that's a far shot.

I have had good luck with a case full of H4895 (26-27 gr) and most any 50-55 gr bullet.
