There is a wide variety of powders that work well in a 223. I like powders on the faster side for light bullets (50 and under) and slower types for the heavier bullets. Not very many people use it, but I have had very good results with VV N133 with a 50 grain V Max ignited by a Remington 7 1/2 primer. Some get good results with W748, BL C2, H335, AA2460, TAC, BenchMark, Varget, H322 just to name a few. You are going to have to try different powders and bullets to find out what your barrel likes. I start load development with a bullet appropriate for the application, and work up with a likely powder. If not getting the results I want, I then try a different powder and work up again. After trying several powders and not getting the results I want, I switch bullets and start again. With a cartridge like the 223 where there are lots of combinations that can work well, you may have a lot of load development going on or you may hit it right away. Good Luck and Good Shooting.
