H&R Customer Service
« on: September 09, 2008, 04:16:11 AM »
What is the secret to getting someone from customer service on the phone?  I have been calling the 18667769292 number for 2 days and have yet to get anything but music on hold.  I was going to e-amil but they don't seem to have that option.  I just wanted to check to see if they had recieved my gun for the barrell accessory program since I sent it to the old address inadvertantly!

I'm sure you got a recording saying your wait would be X number of minutes, and then elevator music.  If you are patient, a real live human will get on the phone with you.  If you called yesterday, Monday, they were very busy and suggested calling back later in the week.  I waited 10 minutes and got my order taken care of very efficiently.  Just hang in there and wait a little bit.  Play a game on the computer while you're waiting.

I finally got through today, I just kept calling whenever I had the chance and would hold as long as I could stand. Thank God they aren't running an ambulance service !  I hope this improves as they get settled in.

The only advantage I can see to getting old is I've begun to learn the value of patience,

I did finally get through!  I think it took about 10-15 minutes.  Bad news is that I mailed by frame on 8/28 and they don't have record of recieving it yet.  He told me to call back on Friday and check again.  Good news is that I did insure it.  I mailed it to the MA address so I guess I'm the only one to blame!  Hopefully they will find it and finish quickly!

You can get some tracking info from the insurance number, plug it into their site and see whatcha get.

This is all I get(minus the actual # of course):

"Search Results

Label/Receipt Number:

Delivery status information is not available for your item via this web site. A return receipt after mailing may be available through your local Post Office."

I hope this isn't a bad sign!  Maybe I will be able to go to the PO tommorrow and get more info there!

I sent mine in 7/7/08 and I have had a hell of a time getting through, took about a week to finely get through to someone. When I sent it in I sent it USPS-Track&Confirm. When I called back 2 week ago I was told it was ready and it would be sent out in about 2 days, that was 2 weeks ago! There idea of 2 days is not the same as mine. I'm glad I don't and wont ever own a rem.

USPS says that my barrell was delivered to Gardner yesterday when I shipped it 8/28.  What is that all about?  It could have circled the globe 5 times in that time!  Mississippi to Massachusetts is not that far.  I wonder how long it will take to get from Gardner to Ilion?  Glad I have another rifle to use for deer season since it open in November!  Does the insurance I have on the rifle cover it when it is forwarded to Ilion?

Shipping parcel post is real slow, 10-14 days for things I've received from the zones 7 and 8, I've never shipped parcel post to H&R, always Priority for two day delivery west coast to MA, just too much handling time and more chances of it going astray or being damaged shipped by PP.  It'll take another 1-2 weeks to get to Ilion from previous reports, why'd ya send it to Gardner, the website has been updated since July, did you just go by the acc barrel form? That's just the first bad news, because of BATF rules,  they have to ship it back to Gardner before it can be returned to you. :-\

I'll have to remeber all of those things next time!  I hadn't been on the board ina while(6-8 months) I guess so I didn't know about the change to Ilion until the day after I sent my barrell off!  I just printed the barrell form I had saved to my computer from the last time I sent off for a barrell.  I guess it is really good I started early this year!  My main concern is getting back my frame so I can use my 45/70 during primitive weapon season in december!  I hope it doesn't take too much longer.  What is the deal with the BATF rule about shipping it back to Gardner?

When a firearm is recieved by a dealer, it's logged in as required by the BATF, it would be logged back out to Ilion when they sent it on, Ilion logs it in, then after working on it, it's logged back out to the shipper which was Gardner, and so on.  At least that's the way I understand it. I know my gunsmith has to log a complete firearm in when I ship one to him, but he prefers just barrels so he doesn't have to do the paperwork....both coming and going.

Well, here we go again.  Just off the phone with "Pete" at CS in Ilion, and now am being told both my frames have moved to the "Gallery" to be test fired, then to the final inspection after that.  "Should be sent real soon."  Since my first phone call 7-15-08, I have been told to wait 2 more weeks, but am really getting tired of hearing that.  I see where people have sent frames in after mine,(6-13-08), and have already gotten them back.  I know mine went to Gardner first, but to have it add that much time is just outa line.  Can't complain about the people I talk to as they have no control over the situation and have only given the answer they have available.  Sorry guys, just venting here, but out of all options except that.   >:(  DP

Part of the problem that didn't exist in Gardner is Customer Service isn't in the same facility or even the same state as where you send a firearm,  it's in Madison NC, the plant where the work is actually done is in Ilion NY.  :-\
