41mag hunting load?
« on: August 07, 2003, 04:57:41 PM »
I've got  a new SW657 w/7.5" barrel and an old RBH 6.5"barrel in 41. I read alot about people who say that  a 210gr swc @1000fps is the load for deer. Or even a little hotter. Maybe 1200FPS? they say that this load should get a hole on both sides. fine. I'm kind of thinking of a 210 partion @1800FPS with some shock to it. I've got red dots on both guns. Maybe I'd shoot out to 100yards or so. What's your opinion? I'm not looking to be traditional. I'm looking to kill a buck with the most effective bullet that I can load.

I use a 210 Nosler JHP at 1200 to 1400 fps, depending on which 41 mag I pick up,  for deer hunting, or the Hornady XTP 210 is nice also, I just prefer the Nosler. Stay away from the SWC's. the JHP will do a better job on soft body animals like deer.

PS
21 grs of H110 behind the above bullets works good in
just about anything I own.

Gunner,
Was kidding about the 1800FPS. I can see the thinking behind the swc. No Expantion. So it passes through. I was thinking about a partion that I might get the best of both worlds. Pass through and good expantion and shock. I feel there is alot to the shock factor. Now I load a lot of 215 gr swc from Carroll bullets.  They're $46 per 1000 delivered. Makes for some affordable fun with 7gr of unique.
