Shorts out of a .22 Contender Barrel
« on: December 14, 2008, 03:37:39 AM »
May be a dumb question but I wanted to make sure before I did.  Can I shoot Shorts out of these barrels or just Long Rifle?  Thanks

It's OK to shoot'm.  Mine does MUCH better with long rifle subsonics.

Wouldn't that leave lead in the chamber and make it hard, eventually, to chamber a LR?

Yes eventually I guess it would, but .22's don't foul much so I think it would take an awful lot of shootin without any cleaning.

I used to shoot the standard shorts for subsonic until the lr subs came out. I'm bad about cleaning barrels. Never had a problem. The contender barrel has had 3-4000 rounds out of it, I decided to clean when accuracy fell, hasn't happened yet. One little tip though, I think all that is made in shorts now is high velocity. Try to find one with a copper wash or some type of lube like rem uses. You will get less lead fouling.
