Where can I find .30/30 cast bullet data???

I want to buy a mold but I am having a hard time finding data for loading cast bullets in the .30/30. None of my manuals have anything, and all I have been finding on the net is jacketed data.

The mold I am especially interested in right now is the Lee 110gr RNFP. Looks like a good plinker and would be easy on the lead supply.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Lyman lists cast bullet data for most rounds in their manual and they put out a Cast Bullet Reloading manual. If you're gonna reload cast  you should own both.

I've used the Lee 120 grain RN gas check bullet for general purpose plinking in .30-30, .308 Winchester, .30-06, and .30 M1 Carbine for over 30 years and am perfectly happy with it.  H-110, WW 296, and 2400 for full loads in M1 Carbine, and moderate loads of Unique, Red Dot, Green Dot in the rifle cases.

As stated previously the Lyman cast bullet manual is good. If you can find them, Accurate Powders have cast bullet loads listed for just about all their powders. You may also want to look at the "One Book/One Caliber" book for the 30-30.

I use 2 different loads. A light one using Unique derived from the Lyman manual and a heavy load using 2400 derived from the RCBS listing in the One Book... manual.

I only shoot a 170 grain bullet so can't offer any advice on the lighter bullet.

Lyman shows 11 different powders for their lightest bullet which is a 115 gr BB style mold.

How do you like 2400 in your .30? I have a bunch of 2400 left over from hi-power, and a new (to me) .30-30 Handi.
I also have a bunch of really nice 150 gr. a friend cast for me. You may be on to something.....

You might also get some info from the Beartooth Bullets Reloader's Forum on the BTB website, since he offers cast bullets for .30 cal. jd45

Mike, my copy of One Book/ One Caliber is Copyrighted 1992 so I don't know what changes have been made since...
On page 18 (in the RCBS section)
For the 175 grain 30-180-SP bullet
they list 17 grains of 2400 for 1756fps
and 15 grains for 1541fps

For the 30-180-FN bullet
they list 18 grains of 2400 for 1886fps
and 16 grains for 1756

Test gun was a model 94 with 20" barrel, W-W cases and cci primers.
They don't list 2400 for a 150 grain bullet.

If memory serves me correctly my bullets with checks are around 175 grains.

The only old target I have was only shot at 25yds, but the bullets are all touching. I have no idea if I loaded them one at a time or feed through the tube of my Marlin.

Thanks, I have a copy of the one book, and noticed the 2400 loads in it, but as is typical of me, I thought to myself, "2400 in a .30-30? naw..." I'm going to load some up this fall and see what I get.

I use 2400 in most of my cast bullet rifle loads. Only use Unique for the really light loads for the kids to shoot.

The RCBS load in the One...book is the only 2400 load I have seen for the 30-30 though.

The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook 3rd edition lists 2400 @ 13.5gr start to 21.2gr max  w/CCI 200 primers for the 115gr Lyman #311441.

The Lyman 48th lists 2400 for 170gr and 173gr cast bullets as well.

When I am loading mid-range loads for cast bullets in rounds more typical for jacketed bullets, like small game loads to take on hunting trips, I do not lubrisize the cast bullets.

I wrap them in a turn of TEFLON tape.

Teflon does not interfere with accuracy as happens when switching from jacketed to alox-lubed cast bullets
