Hi All, Has anyone ever had their barrel get stuck to the point where it would not break open. I have an octagon 10" 30-30 that I just acquired and could not Break open the barrel. Any Ideas as to what would cause this? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.....Steve

Hey Steve
The barrel probally has a one pc. locking lug. Changing it to the two pc. lug should cure this. To get it open pull the forearm, knock out the hindge pin, pull on the spur while holding onto the barrel and it should pop open.

I had the same problem with a new barrel. but the tc answer man said to use a whet stone and and run it over the lug at the same angle as the factory a couple of times and try it and repeat process till it would open. did this a couple of times and it opened fine also said to mark with a marker to make sure it was going all the way under to lock up. I have had to do this with a number of barrels that I have picked up used both split and non split. One other thing that I have found is that a barrel will open on one frame and not open when put on another frame. I had one frame that only the barrel that came with it would open, no other barrel that I had would open when I changed barrel to another cal.I have never changed to the newer type split lug but as stated that should cure the problem but as I stated when I started the response I had the same problem with a new split lug barrel.
