Encore tapered barrel with sights......which scope base?

I got a new .17 rimfire a couple of weeks ago and have been meaning to ask this question.  It has a tapered barrel and is the version with sights.  The part that you put the scope base on is flat and not real long at all.  My question:  Is there a specific scope base that I should use for this barrel?  Thanks a ton

I wanted to shoot it so I put a regular base on it (one made to go on a round barrel) and noticed that it just kind of hangs out over the barrel not really supported by a lot.

Most mounts will hang over onto the tapered part.
I don't have that barrel but asume it has the 4 mounting screw holes.
you can use weaver 410 or lots of others like warne etc.
but they will all hang over.

I have the same barrel in 243 and have had no problems with it and it has the weaver type base with bushnell 3x9.

I personally use teh Leupold base and dual dovetailed rings on all my Encore and Contenders. Eye relief is fine. Don't use low rings because it is harder to cock but it can be even with the low rings. I have two with low rings and one with high rings and I like the high rings the best for cocking, etc. but the scope firs lower to barrel to the barrel with low rings. Probably medium rings is the way to go.

The rimfire bases are not the same as the centerfire bases.  I have Conetrol bases and rings on mine.  If I remember correctly, the gentleman at Conetrol said they were the same as the Hawken.  The top of the barrel is flat and the holes are closer together.

Yea, Rob, that is what I noticed.  The hole spacing seemed to work but the contoured bottom of the centerfire base didnt look right on the flat top of the receiver.  Thanks.

Encore Duo-Rings do not hang over the tapered part of the barrel.  They make a pretty slick scope installation for a cartridge with low recoil.  I wouldn't use them with a 7mm Mag. since I believe the recoil would probably let the scope slip or perhaps the mount would loosen from the barrel.  All the other scope mounts I'm aware of, with the possible exception of SSK's T'SOB Talley's one piece mount and Kwik-Site see through mounts hang over the tapered part of the barrel.

I am using E Arthur Brown Co. Peep Sight Bases on my Encore 24" carbine barrels. They work great.

You need the special Encore rimfire scope base.
