223 15 in.

hey guys i shot my 15 in. 223 this weelend i was not to happy the gun shot great but at 50 yds the 55 gr. metal jacket did not pass through the 3/4 wet plywood can any one explain this to me i also shot a 209x50 15 in. with one 50 gr. pellet and a 240 t/c jacked hollow point in a black sabot the 30 pack ones it went through the plywood and kept on going i dont understand is the 15 in. barrel to short for the 223 im very confused but thats not to hard with me sometimes :D so can anyone explain this to me and how far can i kill ground hogs with this 223

 ??? I don`t have any idea what the load were, but you should be able to get 2,700 to 2,800 fps. from your barrel with a 55 gr. bullet and with full metal jackets they should go through a 3/4 ply wood. With a 55 gr. bullet you should get a max. point blant range of around 210 yrds. with your barrel and 55 grn. bullets loaded at 2,750 to 2,800 fps.

after i wrote this i called my buddy he said that after i left he checked the wood there was no more bullet heads in it just that one he also said that there was a chance that the bullet hit the ground in front of the target we just put the scope on and were trying to get it sighted in so it is possible that the bullet hit the ground first this could be the only thing we could think of so i will try again and post the results i kinda feel stupid but that happens sometimes in life  ::) ::)
