switch to loose powder and try a conical.

Sabots in my opinion are a pain in the rear as most of the time you have to buy sabot after sabot to find the right one that fits your bore and performs well.

Powerbelt, Great plains, Hornady FPB, Maxiball-maxihunter.  All good starting points.

Tripple Seven 2F loose, Triple Seven 209 primer, & Powerbelt Aerotip bullet.  Start with a 100 grains of powder and work your way up 10 grains at a time till you find the load that works.

No,start with 70gr triple 7.

100gr triple 7 is to much powder with the Powerbelt, unless its the big 405,444 or the new 338 platinum

Why is 100 grains of Tripple Seven too much with a Powerbelt unless its a big heavy bullet?

Depending on the rate of twist in a given rifle, such as the 1:38 twist in my T/C Thunder Hawk Elite, it requires a full charge of 120 grain of Tripple Seven loose to stabilize 295 and 340 grain Power Belts.

I did however make the assumption that marlinman1's gun was a magnum muzzle loader that could handle 150 grain charge.  My bad.  If his gun is a standard 50 caliber then 110 grains is max for loose powder.

Start with 70 to 80 grains and work your way up till you find the charge your gun likes.

I really like 80 grains of 3F GOEX blackpowder behind a T/C CheapShot.

You must not have shot a live deer or bigger with a Powerbelt and 100gr triple 7.

Bullet will easily fragment into pieces, 295 and even the 348gr.

triple7 is 15% hotter than black powder or pyrodex.   70gr triple 7 is close to 82-84gr black powder/ pyrodex.

I've done a lot of shooting and testing with powerbelts and can tell you that if you shoot a deer with 100gr triple7 anda 245,295 powerbelt. Fragment city!

150gr magnum loads are for those silly enough to think they need that much unburnt powder.

top to bottom-
100gr pyrodex select
90gr pyrodex select
80gr pyrodex select.

All from 58 yards
