Oklahoma Antelope

I just returned from my first ever antelope hunt.  This hunt took place in the panhandle of Oklahoma, in Cimarron County.

Oklahoma Antelope hunting is a Controlled Hunt that is a drawing (lottery) only hunt.  I have been putting in for the antelope hunt for about 15 years now.  This year, my name was drawn. Yoo-Hoo!  I was excited.

My hunting firearm would be my T/C Encore 280 AI w/ Burris 3x-12x scope.  My load would be a handload of my own, pushing a Nosler 140 gr Accubond at 2750+fps.

On the first day of the hunt, I shot my first ever antelope.  Shot was at 165 paces.




My wife accompanied me, and got to witness the shot.  I think she was more ecstatic than I was.


Overall, I am pleased.

CONGRATS!!!!!! that a good looking speed goat!! did you recover the bullet?

No, no bullet recovery.  It completely penetrated the antelope (not hard to do: they are thin skinned/boned).  Looking on the ground for the bullet would have been futile.

The bullet was a Nosler 140 gr. Accubond, which broke the right side leg bone right below the shoulder, penetrated just in front of the heart, exiting on the far side, expelling a lot of blood/tissue on the ground and completely soaked the left front leg with blood on exit. Exit hole was at least 1/2 dollar size.
