Who does there own service?

Do you do your own oil and filter service,  or do you take it in to the dealer?

I not only do my own service but occasionally have mechanics from local dealers call asking advice on certain repairs.

Why do you ask?

On my Rancher, I do it myself...Once a year I change the oil and filter, take the air filter off and clean the box and, filter and re-oil...I also change the spark plug once a year, give it a good cleaning and check the tire pressure...

If it's something I'm capable of doing myself, then I'll do it. This includes changing oil & filter, inspecting (and changing if necessary) the spark plug, cleaning and re-oiling the air filter, changing front/rear differential fluid, etc, etc. No need in paying someone else to do something I can do myself.

I've also done a few things that were a little more demanding. Recently I put a new ball joint in the front suspension of my '00 Foreman and regreased the other three (using a turkey marinade injector syringe converted into a mini grease gun). Also, about 5 years ago I replaced the front drum brakes with disc brakes, which was probably the best thing I ever did to the Foreman.

I always do it myself, Even the front final drives and rear final drive.

With the cost of shop rates anymore I can't afford to take things in to be worked on so I have now gotten a shop manual for the machines and am doing all of my repairs at home.
I just last week finished removing the front outer drive shafts and replaced the CV boot myself, it takes me longer but I save money that I can't spend on shop rates. I have never done anything like that before but it was not too bad so now I would even rebuild an engine if I had to.

Do these service work yourself its pretty easy.

just get a book on yur particular model and dive in. they aint that hard to work on and the dealers really rip yu off big time.most atvs are pretty simple, yu should be able to do everything but a bottom end rebuild or trans werk if yu are fairly intelligent and can read well.

I have invested in factory shop manuals and they have already paid for themselves.  Do all my own work.

Do my own :)
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

Did the oil change and cleaned re-oiled the re-useable air filter on the Rhino this year.   Only go to the shop if something out of the ordinary happens..

I live so far out in the sticks that I have to do my own. No choice. But I'd probably do it anyway.

That is word for word exactly what I do to my Honda Rincon 650...myself.  It doesn't take too long to do it and it's fairly easy.  Why pay more when you can do it yourself?

Do all my own work, whether it be on my '90 Honda 300 fourtrax or any one of my vehicles.  It's not that I'm super mechanically inclined, 'cause I'm not.  It's because I can't afford to pay a shop to do it.  I completely replaced the rear differential, axle, brakes, bearings, etc on my 300 this summer.  I rebuilt the top-end (engine) on my Toyota pickup last December, and I'm doing an engine swap on my Saturn right now.  I decided a few years ago to invest in tools and manuals rather than in somebody else's labor.  Those who can afford to pay the fees associated with the hiring of others to do this work should consider themselves fortunate.

those of yu that do your own service, try this, have yur kids help yu. or if its the machine that they regularily use. make them do it.under close supervision of course.nothing is more disgusting to me than a teenage boy who dont know how to at least fix simple things on his machine. whether it be a car or truck or bike or atv.i know its a pain but take the time to explain why this broke or why this failed and this is what yu do to fix it.the money and time this will save them in the long run is unimaginable.ill admit my motives were kind of selfish, cuz my son at 13 can change my oil in about 10 min,a  starter in 20 min or jak up and pull all the wheels off my truck faster than a indy pit crew lol.
