410 barrel drill and tap??
« on: July 21, 2008, 06:33:18 PM »
Can you drill and tap a standard 410 barrel?  Daughter is starting to shoot and would like to mount a red dot on one for slug shooting...
Thanks!

Yes you can I had my daughters youth model drilled and taped and put a bushnell trophy red dot on it for tree rats and she loves it. She said the bead on the gun was to hard to use.

Thanks for the input, I think that the Reddot would be a lot easier to explain...

The factory used to drill and tap 410 barrels on special request. It used to cost around $40 including the base. I have had two done and have had a local gunsmith cut the choke off of both of them. I have had good luck with accuracy shooting brenekee slugs out of them. I last had the factory drill and tap a barrel about 2 years ago but with the changes I don't know if it is still an option.

why cut the choke off? is this for slugs?  I shoot rifled slugs out of my full choke 410 regularly w no bad effects so far.
