GALIL
« on: September 10, 2008, 07:21:22 PM »
I have been looking at the GALIL as my next purchase. I have seen it for sale listed as in .223 alot. They never refer to the chambering in 5.56 nato. Does this mean that this is chambered in .223 remington...not 5.56 nato. I am familiar with the difference between the two. You know...in the event of a national emergency the 5.56 nato round would be very available. The GALIL seems to be a rifle made for situations like that and it seems kinda unbelievable that they wouldnt chamber it in 5.56 nato. Does anyone have an knowledge about the GALIL and the actual chambering its in??

I owned one in the 1970s, and the manual stated it could fire any 5.56 military ammunition. Mine never saw anything but military ammunition, about 5k rounds worth. I believe it was termed a .223 to avoid any possible problems with markets where military ammunition is verboten.

I have only had 1 gun that had a problem. An H&R singleshot
would not eject the military cased ammo. all other guns I use the two rounds interchangably.
