Ultra .223 and Barnes Varmint grenades
« on: September 17, 2008, 04:41:37 PM »
Hi all first post here!.I just got my Ultra in .223 and i am in the process of breaking in the barrel.
I thought i would try some 40gr vmax's and some 36gr Barnes Varmint grenades.The V'max' were as i
expected.......very accurate, then went on to try the 36gr grenades not really expecting good things as
they are terrible in my Hornet, but they were just as good if not a bit tighter the Hornadys!!.

The gun has had only around 25-30 rounds through it,but looks like it may be pretty accurate.

Welcome to GBO. It sounds like you are off to a good start. Make sure you read the FAQ at the top of this forum. Even if you do not have any accuracy problems, there is some very good reading about all phases of Handi things, from trigger jobs to fore end bedding, what barrels can be fitted, etc. Make sure you post a range report. Those are always popular here. Good Luck and Good Shooting.

Thanks for the welcome........well at 100yds the Barnes and the V-max's are very close.
Does anyone think that the 36 grainers might be a bit light for yotes?

They shot pretty good from my ultra varmint 223 as well with h322 anywhere from 22-24.5 grains, but I didnt find them to be explosive, infact I had some quite a few ricocet, performance on groundhogs was bad as well, single hole in, single exit hole out, about like a soft point, but i may have gotten a bad box or somthing, i read alot of reviews and everybody seemed to have good results exept me.
