YIKES! IT'S IKE!!!
« on: September 11, 2008, 02:43:42 AM »
Boys, the fat lady is singing.
I am loading up for Salado, Texas as I type.
Looks like we get the dirty side---though things can change, if I remember Rita correctly.
See YA when I get back too town.
Blessings too all
Say a prayer for us, please.
Blessings
Bill

I am about 100 miles inland.  The eye is expected to pass just to west of my house.

That's not very far inland for the storm to weaken much and it being west of you is not good you'll be on the wrong side of it for sure. Batten down the hatches or get the hell out of Dodge and hope for the best like Bill is doing.

Send some of that rain our way even tho Fay really helped here our soil could use another shot of moisture before going into fall.

Ya'll take care and be safe. Let us know how you fared when you can.

i was about 115 miles north east of gustav. i lost power for 7 days, some shingles, the road in front of my house was blocked by some big trees. i was lucky because 5 houses had trees go through them in my little town. please take these storms serious.

Where are you?
Well here i sit in the hill Country of Texas--some 40 miles N or Austin. Dry and a liitle cool this AM.
The trip up was made in about 3 1/2 hours---much better than the 23 hours during Rita.
The traffic was heavy, coming up Hwy 290 at about 9:30 yesterday AM--but moving at 70-75 MPH. It got heavier and much slower after Noon.
I would have stayed if I had known it would only be a CAT 2 too lower CAT 3. I was protecting against a heavier storm. Could still be, at this point.
My daughter and her huisband stayed--they live about a mile from us--but we brought Julia (their daughter) with us. My son and his wife and other grandaughter stayed in Pearland and I am concerned about them. We will see.
Thanks for the prayers boys and girls---stay close too your knees for us.
Just talked too my daughter and they are going too get my drill---the battery gave out on theirs--if the can get into the shed--which may be a big jog, as I loaded it down. That ol shed aint square and level but with all the 3/4 plwood I put in it a few years ago too make it a shop- I am not worried about it.
Gotta go now, I will check back.
Plan on going home saturday.
Blessings

We made it.  No injuries so I am gratefull for that.  That was one helluva storm to stay up all night and listen to.
It damaged my house, which is now almost uninhabitable.  Tore our neighborhood all to hell.
We were without electricity until last night.  The roads were not passable for about 3 days.
It was like a post apocalyptic war zone.  We are getting our lives back in order, but it was some kind of ordeal.

They are real troopers.
