1 pellet (50gr.) or must i use 2 pellets(100gr.)

hi completely new to muzzleloading.. my dad and mom have done it for several years but my dad has passed on and now i would like to continue this with my mom,, we are a close family and hunt together as much as we can .  cause of medical reasons we lost a few years of hunting together and i don't want to loose more time..

i am using a traditions in-line and only shot it once so far.. i believe it is a buckhunter or buckmaster or something like that..

i plan on using a 240 bullet...
and
the 50 gr. pellets....
and
#11 cap

is there enough ummph.. in a 50 gr. shot with that weight for a clean kill on a deer? or must i use 2 ?
my max shot will be 75 yards or less where i will be hunting.
deer around here are usually mid sized 100-150 lbs

also if i decide to scope this, is there a special kind of scope for its recoil or will any rifle scope work?

i am new to this style of hunting and want to be sure i am not shooting something that will not cleanly kill..worse feeling in the world to wound and loose..did it once with a bow and still get mad at myself when i think of it..lol..

from what i just read in my post that i can go as low as 40 grains like the old 44 40 makes sence to me but im not sure how far of a shot you should take

Keep in mind, that 40grain load was for target shooting, not hunting!

With the 240gr sabot, i'd say 70 grains Minimum for 100 yard hunting.

I use 80grs pyrodex and feel confident to 175 yards but i am also shooting a 405gr powerbelt that has a lot of knock power behind it.

I am using 50 grains of goex in my T/C Encore 209x50 15" PISTOL with a 240 grain T/C cheap shot sabot and I would bet that at 50 yards it will pass through most deer size animals.
 
So go for it and enjoy your time outdoors, know your limits.

My wife shoots 70gr of Pyrodex RS and a 250gr Shockwave.  She has taken 2 deer (2 shots) in 3 years with a front to back penetration at 30 yds and a broadside pass thru bang/flop at 75.  Hope this helps.  Also you can't put together a pellet load @ 70 gr, 2 30's or a 50 and a 30....

I tried pellets with #11 in an inline rem 700 ml and it cost me the biggest buck of my life. Pellets have a hole through the center and a #11 shoots less spark than a 209 so the problem I had was slow fires of about 1/2 second. Plenty for a flinch and bad miss. It may work in yours but test several shots or just use loose powder to make sure.

The pellets (50grain) are also available in 30 grain pellets. You could use one 50 and one 30 for an 80 grain load that would be plenty for Deer (assuming your rifle groups well with that load). Other POSSIBLE loads are 30+30=60; 30+30+30=90. Remember not to exceed three pellets and not exceed your rifle's maximum charge as per the Mfgr. Hope this gives you some options using the pellets.
