I hate the stock on my Heritage
« on: September 13, 2008, 01:59:42 PM »
Ok I have a SideKick which is the blued model with a wood stock and forend.  I love it to pieces.   Since they were discontinuing the SideKick I set out one day last feb to acquire another one.   I stopped at my local outboard motor & boat dealer (who also dabbles in gunsmithing and trading) to leave a prop off to get fixed and we got to talking muzzleloaders and I mentioned I was on my way to get another SideKick ordered before they were gone.  He said wait just a minute I got something to show you.  He brought out a NEF Heritage (which is basically a SideKick)  made for Cabelas.  Needless to say I snatched it up for $190 bucks.  An old guy had had it and had only shot it about 30 times thats how many primers were gone out of the box of primers that I got with it.   I checked with NEF and the gun was made in late 2005. Its a nice clean and pretty looking gun and I was tickled to death cause these guns were selling for $200-$230 bucks at the time from Cabelas.   Well I finally got around to take it out along with my SideKick to get things sighted in for the up coming deer seasons and just try new sabot/bullet combinations outand work with powder charges for the different sabot/bullet weights.  The trusty old SideKick didn't take but about 45 minutes of tinkering with 3 different combinations and all was well.  Next I went to the Heritage and tinkered with getting the sights left/right and up/down where it needed to be.  My gripe is the composite stock on the Heritage is more straight back making it higher thus I have to bury my cheek and turn my head sideways to line up the front and rear fiber optics on the target.  Where as the SideKick with the wooden stock is swept down a little bit and all I have to do is lay my cheek against the stock to line up the fiber optics.  Is there any place that I can get a wood stock and/or forend  to put on my Heritage other than the factory?  The wood stock and forend for a SideKick will fit the Heritage as I have already swapped them out and now the Heritage is as simple to sight as the SideKick was and now I have to sight the SideKick like I did the Heritage what a pain.

Thanks for any help

You can probably swap it in the NEF/H&R Classifieds.  ;)

Yes the stock you speak of is intended for scope mounting. I had the wood stock on my Huntsman and ordered the synthetic stock as I have a scope on mine. If you cannot find a wood stock or find someone to trade. Contact me klewisinc@msn.com and we will see what we can do. I do not need the synthetic stock but I also do not need the wood one that is not on the rifle.

Well I played with the stock some more this morning and I was able to loosen the stock bolt and tap the back of the stock down a bit while holding the front of the stock and the receiver and retighten the bolt and this allowed me to get the angle just about the same as the angle on my wood stocked sidekick and I am now able to bring the heritage up and sight it just like my sidekick.  Thanks for all of the replies and helpful info.
