New 95 and new Marbles sight question
« on: September 28, 2008, 05:27:52 AM »
I just pick up my very slightly used 95 Cowboy.  It came a marbles tang sight which is very cool but it still has the iron blade sight which is not a fold down type.  Consequently, it get5s in the way of the tang sight. I can drift it out but here is the question.
Can I use the existing front blade/bead with the tang sight successfully or do I need to put on different front sight?

By the way, I stood off at about 40 yards and it put 3 cowboy 350GR. leads in the xring.. I am high on life!  ;D I intend to hunt with is as well so your scoping suggestions would also be welcome.

Thanks!
Dana

I had this site on a 45COLT Cowboy and currently have it on mt 38-55Cowboy. I was able to use the factory front site no problem.
I haven't shot either out past 100 or so. So if your asking about really long ranges I can not comment.

So I think you will be fine. I also added slot blanks to the empty rear site slots on mine.

Relatively inexpensive and effective scope solution...A Pentax Gameseeker 1.75-5x22mm (it's a 1 inch scope), in Warne Quick detach rings, on a one-piece weaver style mount on the receiver. The scope is pretty good quality (for a Chinese scope), is small with no bell on the forward end, and has multiple reticles so you can dial in your favorite load to shoot way out yonder..and it costs about a hundred bucks. It comes with a lifetime warranty. Got one on my 1895, and a 3-9x40 on my '06.

A tang sight can be used with almost any front sight, since it sits behind the receiver (unlike a side-mounted peep), and can be adjusted high/low enough to align with the issue line-of-sights.
The only problem is, that if the issue height is used (as you found out), the rear barrel sight intrudes on the peep sight picture - and needs to be either removed or folded down (Marble's makes both a short and a long-leaf folding rear barrel sight).

On rifles that I want to use the tang peep for all shooting distances, I simply remove the rear sight & fill the slot.

On other rifles, I zero the barrel sight for short yardage (snap/brush hunting shots), then fold it down to zero the tang sight for a longer distance.

Both rear sights are zeroed using the same front sight.

I find there's usually enough time to fold the barrel sight and raise the tang for a shot at game some distance away, but not the reverse for game close at hand.

My 95 CB does not have a folding rear sight so I think I will drift it out and fill it as you mentioned.
Thanks for the input...it is always welcome!
