What would a straight stock 336 pre safty 30-30 be worth in 90 percent shape?
I enjoy collecting guns, swaping and staying up on all the newest models. I deer, quail, squirrel and rabbit hunt.

You haven't given us enough info to tell you any value? What year was it made? Can you post pictures of it? Is it marked Texan or have a T on it?

I have bought and refurbished three in the last year. None were "special" Texas or JW editions. Just plain Jane 336's. All .30-30.
The most I paid was $150. They were about 75% or 80% rather than 90%. Refurbished them and sold them to friends/family for $200 each.

tn_junk, you work cheap. Marlin gets the same price for refurnishing a rifle as you get for the whole deal?

Just something I do to take up time.
I figure, at best, I am losing about $100 per gun.
But, as I said, these are for friends and family.

Answer to the Original Question:  $375 to $425 for someone who appreciates and is looking for a straight- stocked Marlin.  (The vast majority of deer hunters are totally happy with the pistol gripped stock.)  The straight- stocked pre-safety336  Marlins in .30-30 with 20 inch barrels aren't that hard to find if you just spend some time looking around for them. (Really pretty rifles.)  But, just try to find one in .35 Remington!  Very very very hard to find.

TN-Junk,
Please give us a rundown on what you've done to restore some of those 336s.  I'd be very interested.  A 336 project might be in my future.
What did you do?
What to look out for, etc.
Thanks.

I never paid over 150 bucks for a used 336, not ever, and I've owned a lot of them.
You just can't get anything out of them in these parts. (N.E.Ohio, no rifles allowed for deer).
At present I have 5 336 rifles, 4 in 30-30 and one in .35 Rem. The .35 Rem is 90% , wears a Williams peep and I gave 150 because it was a .35 and in good shape.
I have two older ones without Micro-groove rifleing.
They are not in good shape, about 60% one made on 1950 and one in 1951.
I will refinish these myself as they are not worth the 125 Marlin wants to reblue them.
They are worth plenty to me. The bores are perfect, actions are perfect, just browned out with age and the stocks should be replaced or at least refinished.
I have a .357, .44 mag, .45 Colt, too many 30-30's, the .35 Rem and a 1895 in 45-70, oh, and a 39A of course.

there about as common as dirt up here and the prices dont go high. I can usually pick up a real nice 3030 for 200 bucks and maybe add 50 bucks if its a .35. Some places theres a demand for them and ive seen them go for over 300 used. If you picked up a nice one 270 isnt a bad price.
