Remington 870 Wingmaster ???

I just put a Remington 870 WingMaster 16 gauge on Layaway that is an older gun...not sure of the year so I figured I'd ask around.

The stock has a standard butt pad (non rubber) and no checkering; the forend has a ribbed look...similar to a vacuum hose.  The wood is in good shape with some standard wear, bore seems good and the bluing is not bad.  They described the gun as around 75-80% and I’d have to agree but I’m not the best judge.

What would the going rate be for a gun like this (ball park)?  Serial number is #290xxxW.  I can’t find a link on the Remington website to see if they have a chart that the serial # falls within.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't really help you on the date of manufacture other than to say with that fore end it is one of the early production guns as they've not made them like that in a Loooong time and didn't for very long really. Gun prices really are quite regional even in this day and age of internet gun sales. Around here it's hard to get much over $200 for a used 870 and even at times I seen quite nice ones on dealer's shelves a bit under that price.

The 16 gauge is rather unpopular these days so generally will not bring as much as a 12 or 20 will but then someone who really is in love with the gauge might pay a premium so it just depends on who's buying and who's selling what they are worth.

With a vent rib to me an 870 is worth in the $200-$250 range depending on what it is and the condition it's it. Around here these days you can pick up 1100s for what we used to pay for 870s the prices on both have dropped so much.

It would have had to have been made between 1950 & 1980.  I like a 16 gauge, and the "corn cobb" forend.   IMO the Remington 870 is the best shotgun ever made for the serious hunter.  Good hunting!
