My wife took the nasal mist form of the vacine last week and she is fine, but then,  she always has been fine. ;D

tm. It is imperative that you take the h1n1 vaccine. If YOU were to get the SWINE flu not only might you die, but you would be forever tainted and contaminated  and you might miss out on your 72 virgins. Hmmmmmm. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

 wait a min. you guys  :).. making somebody take a shot..steps all over my freedom..
 in the future if socialism has its way ...they will attempt to make these type things mandatory..
 at that point i may just start giving a few shots my self..the kind that make a good socialist commie out ofum. ;D

My wife's an ER RN and I'm a pharmacist. No one in our family is getting this vaccine.
In my wife's department, unofficially about 80-90% of the nurses are not getting the shot/nasal spray and most of the docs aren't either...and that's in the frontline ER dept. They have done their research and know better.

For me, the distrust of the gov't ranks pretty high (I agree with TM7, you don't trust them with anything else, do you?) and the fast track to market doesn't bode well with me either. But the clincher (I can't spell cout de grais  :D  ??) in the whole thing is the squalene component in the vaccine. Thanks, but no thanks.

The government does assure us it is perfectly safe. Just like they did with Thalidomide, DES and the 70's version of the vaccine. What's to fear? LOL

Have had great results with regular flu shots.  All the people I know who are against it, do not regularly get a flu shot or may have never had one.  I haven't had the flu in 20 years and the last case I can remember was in the month of August before the shot came out that year.

I'd hate to think I couldn't get a flu shot.

They may be fine...now, but some of the side effects affect the neurological system and may not show right away!  I would tell them to keep their eyes open for ANY changes.

HEATHER. Right you are. No way to know what it can do to the body. It really bothers me that they are using the school kids and our military as guinea pigs. We have taken the regular flu shot for at least 6 years now and firmly believe it has helped us tremendously. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

Nothing new about vaccinating members of the military.  I'm certain I had shots for diseases that are very rare, but I wouldn't want to be on a ship with a crew of deathly sick mates either.  Worst yet, I wouldn't someone carrying a backpack in the desert with a high fever, especially if he was protecting me in battle.  Just plain makes sense to vaccinate the military.

Why do you think health insurance companies pay 100% for their members to get flu shots?  Why would large employers sponsor flu shots at the workplace.  Because in the long run, it benefits both parties.

What other diseases would you refuse preventative treatment for?  Would you refuse insulin shots?  Smallpox vaccinations?  Polio was a virus.  What diseases are not worth preventing?

When I was in the army I disliked being a guinea pig, but had no choice. I never had a bad reaction, but other guys I know did. Some wound up in the hospital for days and then spent even longer on profile.

I don't trust the government or many of the so called medical experts either, so I'll pass on this one.

The government says tobacco use is bad for you.  Do you buy into that theory?  What is your level of distrust.

I remember getting a shot one day in boot camp for yellow fever.  About half of the men in my company had a fever and chills but all were well the next day.  I never saw anyone with an adverse reaction to a vaccine, especially a long term reaction.  Agent orange was bad, and red lead paint was bad.  Lots of men had teeth pulled that could have probably been treated but they had to ship out.  Welding burned my eyes on occasions.  None of this gives me a bad taste.  I had to cut up and remove an asbestos coated tank once while on a ship.  Wonder if that's why I am fat, bald and un-endowed?

Might call Opera to get the facts.

I'm almost 50 and have never smoked in my life. I knew as a 5 or 6 year old child that putting smoke in your lungs was a bad idea.

That's called common sense and I never needed the government to tell me something as obvious as that.

After all....

The US government NEVER lies or makes mistakes. If someone wants to drink the Kool-Aid I say more power to them.

If it's the republicans or democrats I think I'll keep my options open, JUST IN CASE there might be just one or two who don't have my best interest at heart.


For the record it took the government years to put those warning labels on the side of the packs. And it was only when the tobacco companies stopped being the biggest contributors on the block and it was no longer in the political best interest of those fine upstanding servents of the people to back tobacco.

Sorry about being un-endowed, that must be a real bugger.

With what my wife knows about this stuff, and what we've read, this is what we're doing. We picked up vitamins with extra C, zinc,echinacea, immune booster pills. Make sure the boys take 1 in the morning, and 1 before bedtime.
Both of them mentioned that they've already got 3-5 classmates out with swine flu. And the schools don't have the shots scheduled for another week. There has already been a report out, that by the time the majority of the people can get shots, it'll be to late. gypsyman
