7BR for Whitetails????
« on: August 06, 2003, 01:19:37 PM »
Will this caliber work for whitetails.  Does anyone have any hunting experience with it?  If so, what are the typical loads used?

Thanks,

Smoky

definately! havn't used it personally, but it's balistics tell the story. i'd say it's comparable to 7-30 waters and 7tcu. there are a few bullets that would do the job. 120gr nosler's,130gr sierra single shot pistol bullets, 120gr hornady's to name a few. should be a dandy! i took a small doe last year with my 6br and the 80gr sierra sspb. 8)

A hunting buddy of mine took a fairly nice Whitetail buck last year with his 15 inch Encore pistol chambered in 7 Br.  The range was about 125 yds and it made a clean kill, deer did not run.  He was shooting Nozzler ballistic tips handloaded, do not have load info. :D

It certainly is good for whitetail! I have taken several deer with an xp100 in 7br. I have used 120,139 grain bullets and occasionally a 145 cast bullet. All worked VERY well.If you can do your part ,120's are good to 200 yards. I have had great success with WW748 powder, less velocity with H322but equal accuracy. I have 748 on hand all the time so I use it. You might find a better powder for your gun!?? I use a 2.5x8 Leupold scope and a bipod to help make those long shots.
One note of caution ,PRACTICE TILL YOU CAN KEEP ALL YOUR SHOTS IN A PAPER PLATE AT THE LONGEST RANGE YOU WILL BE SHOOTING!
   hope this helps,  jh :D
