Is a "good economy " good for you?
« on: October 01, 2008, 04:31:08 AM »
I am afraid that most americans don't understand what the economy means to them.
I Think a couple years of "bad economy" is just what this country needs.
That would mean people were saving money instead of spending it on junk they can't afford.
Here is a neat link about it. The second part is very good.

My parents lived through the Great Depression. I was born just before WW II so know nothing about it except what i was told. However a simple sentence in reply to a question I asked my Dad has stuck with me ever since he said it. Color TV had become pretty common place and he was still using a black & white set. I asked him why he didn't get a color set and he said he didn't need one. I asked him "But don't you want one?" His reply was "I learned the difference between want and need a long time ago." I took that to heart and although I don't always practice it, I haven't forgotten it. I'm afraid that it would have no meaning at all to the vast majority of people today who think that they should have anything they want as soon as they discover they want it.

Have you ever seen this?
Mom and Dad are 45-50 have 2500sqft home nice(maybe new Car and truck)
junior has nice car he did not pay for. Junior decides to marry his one and
only. next day they need new car new truck new 3000 sqft home, only thing is
mom and dad can't pay for it and theirs, so the world and the gov. is treating
them bad. It is the American way it seems.
My parents lived through the great depression and raised kids. i was born in 1947. I used to get so tired of hearing those depression stories, but now
i realize they taught me lots.

I don't believe anyone is hoping for a depression coupled with starvation.  However what a lot of people need to learn is how to live within their means.  Society is all about the instant gratification.  America has been living off of credit for far too long.  It's time to pay up!

"7 million people died from starvation in the last depression. "

That's not what I want or expect to happen.
I just think this country needs a reality check.
