synthetic winch rope
« on: December 24, 2009, 08:21:21 AM »
I bought a Gorilla winch earlier this year for my ATV. I got it mounted and used it last Saturday to work my snow blade. The synthetic rope wore in two in one day's use. It looked cheap when I got the winch. I ordered new rope from CSE Offroad Equipement. I ordered a new Amsteel 50' rope, an Amsteel plow rope (shorter), a new winch saver (rubber plug), and a new aluminum hawse for $100.80 shipped. I placed my order online Saturday evening and it arrived today by USPS priority mail. With the season's heavy mail volume and last weekend's weather I was surprised I got it so quick.  The rope looks like it is quality material and workmanship and the winch saver is thicker as it should be for synthetic rope. I thought I'd pass this on for anyone looking for synthetic winch rope. Dave

Thanks Dave.  I've been considering changing the rope on my Rhino to synthetic, but have read about issues with it fraying if it contacts something rough.  I don't use my winch to plow, since it doesn't snow down here, but have used it to get unstuck, and to hoist large hogs.  Bought a hand crank hoist for the receiver hitch for that, so the winch is not seeing much action these days.  A synthetic rope sounds like a good after Christmas gift to myself.

I plowed my street today and got to use the Amsteel plow rope I bought two weeks ago for my winch. It shows no wear and worked very well.
