257 Roberts load
« on: September 23, 2008, 02:31:36 PM »
I just put together some 257 loads.  117 Sierra SPBT  35.0 IMR 4064  W-W +P cases CCI 200 Primers.

First three shots .625 center to center 2 1/2" high at 100 yards. Think this will work well on Blacktail deer? :o
If I can make it go bang it can't be that hard to do.

I don't shoot the BOB so I can't help much , other than to say your load should work well , its a good bullet choice and its grouping well .

Good luck on the Blacktail .  ;)

No way to tell.  How large were the second, third and fourth 3-shot groups?  A single group tells you little and cannot predict the size of the next several groups, which is afterall what you really care about.  They will all be either larger, or smaller - you cannot predict which.

But, it does look rather promising.    8)

It looks like you are off to a good start. I have shot the .257 Roberts quite a lot and I use 43.0 grains of IMR4350 with 85, 100 and 120 bullets. My standard hunting load is a 120 Nolser Partition and 43.0 grains of 4350. It will usually shoot very close to 1 inch in my Ruger No. 1. This load chronos 2834 in my 26 inch barrel with and SD of 13. This load will probably rival most factory .270 130 grain loads.

The Sierra bullet should perform well. I just prefer the Nosler's.

i use the same bullet and powderin my m77,4064 seems to be my go to powder.i think my load is a little hotter 36.2 sounds right without looking.works well up here in the northcountry on whitetails.largest i have killed with the 257,weight wise was 175 dressed.i don't know how big a b-tail is but do your part and i think you'l be fine.depending on your shooting range i would prob lower it to 1 inch high @100 for 200 yd average.i site mine dead on at 100 as i rarely shoot past that, 150 would be a long shot here.most deer we kill under 50 yds.good luck adker
