Is Remington going to keep making the muzzy barrels?
« on: October 06, 2008, 07:27:19 AM »
Just wondering if remington is going to continue to sell the muzzy barrels through the barrel accessory program.  Or are they going to stop as soon as they run out of barrels?  I heard that they stopped production of the huntsman and sidekick as soon as they took over.  I hope that the huntsman/sidekick is not a thing of the past.  I really want one but don't dare sent My receiver in to get one with all the trouble others have been having.

The Huntsman was discontinued a couple years ago, the Sidekick was discontinued for 2008 by H&R/Marlin last fall when the 2008 catalogs were printed, long before Remington was involved. Cabela's still sells the Sidekick/Heritage, for how long is anyone's guess.

Right now they seem to be out of stock.  I'm concerned about the plastic carriers becoming unavailable.

I called last week about having 2 - 26" stainless .50 cal barrels fitted, for my sons. It didn't seem to be a problem then. I ended up buying a new stainless Huntsman and a good used spare barrel elsewhere so I didn't send any frames in. To me, the best way to go is to buy a rifle you like with a SB2 receiver and add the .50 barrel as an accessory. I get the sinking feeling that we probably shouldn't wait too long on ordering any accessory barrel, but that's just me... I'm not worried about primer holders, I expect to make breechplugs to handle 25ACP, Hornet or .32 S&W, haven't decided which yet.

So still no official word from remington, I hope that they decide soon what they will do with all of their Product lines.  I might just bag the whole idea of going with H&R/nef for a muzzle loader.

A Knight, T/C, or Savage might not be bad.  I wouldn't buy any of the current crop of foreign made muzzleloaders.
