Value of Contender frames.
« on: October 02, 2008, 04:42:04 AM »
I have been away from the Contender game awhile, and am out of touch with what is going on.  There is a complete gun available with a barrel I want, but I have changed over to the G2 frames and do not want or need the frame and grips.  It is a last version with selector on the hammer and is blue.  Presuming good clean used condition, what are frames worth these days?  I am thinking of buying the gun and selling the frame and keeping the barrel.

Any input is appreciated.

I personally wouldn't think of paying more than $150 for a used bare frame. Check the classifieds to see what they've been selling for here. We leave them up after items sell so you can check to see the prices folks have actually asked and gotten for such items. They sell here regularly so you should be able to find several threads on the TC CLassifieds with prices on them.

I commonly see Classic frames offered for $150 to $220 or 230 (and sometimes higher), with stainless running $15-20 more than blued.   Frame prices are dependant on condition and vintage of course, but how much you'll get is probably based more on how bad a person wants what you have to sell.   For example, since I am not a fan of the G2, I'd pay more for a clean used Classic frame than for a G2, and more for a easy open than older vintage.

One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

 8)    When the G2 came out, the frame with grip and forend, without the barrel sold for $280 brand new-caught Ed's at a gun show.  Immediately after that, the price of old style contenders shot up.  I've given $250 for a frame at a gun show, no questions asked. Bought a frame and barrel for $325 though, it was a better deal.   I'd say the guys are close to right here, frames probably start at $200 or so. That depends on how much you want to haggle over price, I usually WANT it right now!

I bought one from ed for 140 with the butt grip and my son bought one from ed later mod. easy open for 200 In my area you can buy a new G2 for 495. At most of the gun shows used contenders bring from 350 to 550 depending if there are extra grips or barrels.
