NOW is time to get traps ready!
« on: August 03, 2008, 03:34:39 AM »
Yeppers even though its hot out and humid ect , now is time to  be getting those new traps and old traps prepared for the coming trapping season.  Also getting any new or renew your trapping grounds permission.   Come fall is time for setting traps not fixing and adjusting them....  which reminds me......LOL... ;)

Less the fact that the weather is just a bit humid.
Right now is the time to be dipping if your going to dip. Just be careful if your a smoker or ya might blaze your self up with the fumes.
I will probably do what dipping I have to after I get back from Mason City.
Stuff will be hard as paint by season start.

you mean I can't just wash the grease off my last 3 dozen Bridger #2,adjust them and hang them outside until October?OK I'll lye,dye and wax them.I have been seeing lots of red fox this last couple weeks.Like 2 and 3 young fox together out hunting in the mornings and evenings.Watched to 2 young coyotes chase each other around an alfalfa field like young dogs last night.I was funny to watch.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning.It smells like victory!!

I'm in the process of getting traps ready. I plan on doing some serious trapping for a change.

Hallelujah.

                                     Gentlemen,

           Yup, yesterday I took apart a #3 L/S O/S
{I got 20 of them off Ebay '9.40 e'}
wire brushed it real good.
took a file and got all the rust off the bottom,
and brushed it again.
Filed the jaw tips a hair where the sharp edges are filed off and the trap will open and close smoothly, and filed the springs so the springs will turn in and out without binding. {Just took that sharp edge off.}
 Put a double tire chain link on the bed piece and reassembled the trap.
Bent the frame back in over the jaw tips,
 filed the dog notch where the pan will set level and just below the off jaw,
 and fire on a 1/4" drop.
And I woke up this morning thinking about it.

     I also dreamed that I had some beer.
Imagine my disappointment when I got up and realized I didn't have any beer
and was just dreaming.
Dern!

Sorted a tote of coon traps yesterday and most are fine for the field. The cooler weather sure makes it easier to get excited. I always leave to many things till the last minute, it's just a bad habit. But I also manage to get out and start pounding in steel the first morning of season. I took on some community service work that's going to tie up some of my evenings. It is however something that I wanted to be involved with. So as usual I will some how get everything up to speed.
What I hate most and usually worry most about is vehicle stuff. Unless you drive a brand new truck, there is always something needing repair on the old truck.

 I have one last conventon to do , next weekend. Then(as usual) I will start dipping and getting things in order.
 The end of conventions, also means I can get everything ready for my customers orders. I am a bit ahead of that this year,as far as cable restraints and cabled Berkshires go. But I do have to put up and bottle a bunch of MoundMaster.A final -before season order from Asa and Blackie,and I should be ready to fill the last minute orders.I may even get a short catalog done.
 Our favorite time of year---is almost here.
 Tom
If you need trapping supplies---call ,E-mail , or PM me . Home of Tom Olson's Mound Master Beaver Lures  ,Blackies Blend--lures and baits.Snare supplies,Dye ,dip,wax,Large assortment of gloves and Choppers-at very good prices.Hardware,snares,cable restraints and more!Give me a call(651) 436-2539

Hi Folks.... While getting your traps ready, dont forget to check out your Nite Lites and what ever other lighting you may use if you check your traps in the early morning hours. Dont forget to put an edge on those knives either!!!
