rebore 44 mag to 45 colt
« on: August 04, 2003, 11:50:44 AM »
Any one out there know who might be able to re-bore a 14" 44 mag barrel to 45 colt? Is there any reason for not doing so?
Thanks

I would think it would cost as much as a new barrel. Why not just buy a new one and have both?  KN

I don't think there's enough "meat" between the .44 and .45 bore to get the rifling cleanly bored.  New barrel is in order.

Probably not enough difference in bores to allow it but even so it would likely cost you about twice what a new barrel would cost so why in the world would you do it? Just buy or trade for one if you want a .45 Colt barrel. They are out there and even a custom barrel would be cheaper.

If you got to have a 45Colt bbl, try Ed's Contenders.  His current list which I got on Friday with my new barrel shows he has some in stock.
