butt cover with sling swivel attacement?
« on: December 16, 2008, 10:30:23 AM »
I put an Uncle Mikes sling swivel attachment on the mag tube of a mod. 94  30-30 carbine and would like to not drill a hole in the butt for the other sling swivel. I'd like to put a butt cover of some type on it and I like the leather ones that have cartridge loops on them, but have not seen how a sling swivel can attach to the lace up ones?  I see them attached, but the pics are not good enough for me to see how they did it.  Do they just run the sling through the laces?  Anyone have a leather lace up butt cover on their lever action?  Could use some advice.

Thanks

Jim

I'm sorry that I can't help you with the leather butt cover - but I have used another alternative.

You could obtain an additional buttplate, and file or relieve a bit from it's lower inside face, from the lower BP screw to the toe of the stock - then slide the end of a leather sling in there, far enought to be secured by the lower BP screw.
The leather that sticks out from under the buttplate can be either the sling proper, or a sewn-in QD, or connect the tab to the sling end with a Chicago screw.
