Lightweight rifle build

I recently was able to acquire an Encore on trade that came with three barrels. One of the barrels was a 7mm-08 in a pistol configuration. I figured this would make a great caliber to build a rifle for my 10 year son. The factory barrel was fifteen inches. I took it to a gunsmith and had him add one of his custom muzzlebrakes in order for it to be the legal 16.25 inches in length. I also had him drill and tap the barrel to accept a rifle length forearm. I added the new Flextech stock to help a little more with recoil. The trigger breaks at 3.8 pounds, so I left it alone. With the Nikon Monarch 4-16x42 mildot scope added to the rifle, the total weight came in at 6.8 pounds. I am an avid hunter of the Coues Whitetail here in Arizona so I thought I would add something special to this barrel since I plan on using on my WT hunt later in the year. David

OK, you have my attention!
That, I must say, is one SWEEEEEEEEEEEET looking rig! Can we get a close up of the muzzle break? Looks darn interesting from what I can see.

I doubt the short-barrel and muzzle-break will do much whispering.
But that sure is a handy looking rifle in a good caliber for a 10yr old boy. If that was my build, my son my never get to use it. Dave

Very nice David !!!! Short and light rifle for the youngsters is also one of the reason's I started having my pistol barrels made at 16" or slightly longer.

Here is a close-up of the muzzlebrake. It is made by Magnum Precision Gunsmithing here is Phx, Az. I will be taking the gun out this week to get it dialed in on target. David
