Model 624 four inch....
« on: September 29, 2008, 12:15:28 PM »
I have a smith & wesson model 624 with a four inch barrel in .44 special...   this seems to be a decent gun... but I'd like to buy a holster... I want to buy a used leather holster, something like I could find on e-bay... cheap!   Well, most S&W holsters have a number stamped on the back of the holster, like 21 39....   I can find nothing on the net to tell me what these numbers refer to... or how to determine which frame or pistol  they fit!  Can anyone out there help? I'd like a chart on pistol holster sizes for smith & wesson holsters!

This doesn't answer exactly the question you're asking, but I hope it's helpful. Holsters made by many manufacturers will fit your revolver, not just those sold under the Smith & Wesson brand name. Any holster identified as fitting an " N Frame S&W 4" revolver" will work.

Thank you, but as I tried to say.... E-Bay sellers sometimes have fine looking holsters but don't know what they fit... however sometimes they show numbers stamped on the backs of the holsters... I can't seem to find any kind of chart to tell what these numbers mean... of course they are references to tell what models they fit...  I'd kinda like to have a smith & wesson leather holster... cheap....  and used... my 624 is just an old beater... but has much class... haven't even shot it yet, but smith revolvers aren't much to brag about beyond 50 yds.....

Just get a new one.  A couple of years ago I got a M28 4" and ordered a leather thumb break that looks like a Bianchi Modle 5.
I think it was under $50 at the local store.  They also make double speed loader holders and belts in three colors.  Tripple K makes leather and if you want the molded plastic Fobus holster they are about $25-30 and come with a paddle to slip inside your waist band.

Any holster for a S&W N framed revolver with adjustable sights and your barrel length will work with your gun. As far as the numbers on the back of the S&W brand holsters, they dictate the model and barrel length it can be used with and possibly lining. Try asking questions on either of the S&W forums, a lot of knowledgable people there.
I have some literature on them but, we're doing some work on the house right now, and God only knows where it's at.

Used Holster for a used gun.... ???  Kind of like used floor mats for a used truck.
Get a new holster and use both the holster and the gun till the holster matches the gun.

Try Simpley Rugged.  Don't get some plastic or nylon junk for such a fine revolver.

S&W holster were made in a time before there was so much plastic used, as today?

Another option is just go to the next gun show. There's alway a dealer or two who have a box of nice used holsters on the cheap. Plus you get to enjoy looking at everything else at the show.

I use a bianchi accumold for mine....yeah its nylon/plastic...but it works just fine.  Also...leather holsters for N frames are getting really hard to find even on e-bay.  There's only a few styles that seems to be made.
