Looking for help with 130 grain cast .358 loading
« on: October 09, 2008, 02:36:21 PM »
Though this is my first post I have lurked about (and learned much) for a while. I bought 500 130 grain cast bullets from Miester Bullet Co. with thoughts of loading some cheap plinking-fun rounds for my M92 Legacy. I have not been able to find any data for this weight cast bullet in .38 special. After looking through my Speer and Lyman manuals and searching the net I did load a few starting with 5.5 grains of Unique and worked up to 5.8 grains. Wondered if anyone might have experience loading these and what velocity to keep them under to avoid leading. I will be shooting them in a model 92 Legacy. Thanks in advance for the help.

Scotsman,

Hodgdon's website has loading data for their powders for the 130 Meister cast in 38 special.  Your load of 5.8 gr of Unique is probably near or at the top for standard 38 special pressures.

As for velocity recommendations, it would be best to contact Meister's tech department to get their recommendation velocity limitations.  I'd guess probably under 1200 fps but your rifle will tell you when its too fast. ;)

Thanks for the reply. I checked with Miester, they like you reccommended about 1200 fps. I fired a few today and while there was no real sign of leading the accuracy wasn't great. I will experiment a little more.
