357 Virginian Dragoon

I bought a 357 Virginian Dragoon this past weekend.  It's got a color cased receiver, blue barrel and gripframe and adjustable sights.  It has the original wooden grips that feel pretty good to my hand.  The unusual feature about it is that it has a 12" barrel.  I thought it was a good looking revolver and the price was more than right, so it came home with me.  It's in such nice condition that I'm not sure if I want to shoot it or not.  Do any of you guys have a Virginian Dragoon like this one?  It's got attitude too, with the snake on the bottom of the gripframe and the inscription "Don't Tread On Me"

 :D My shooting pal here in town has one, but it is a 7 1/2" model. He did have some trouble with it hitting the primers too hard and tying up the gun. I think he got it corrected.... ;)

I used to have a stainless in 44 mag, never a bit of trouble with it.  It "fit" my hand better than the factory Rugers I have.  DP

I have had two of these both in 44 mag caliber and both with 7 1/2 inch barrels.  One was blue with the frame color case hardened and the other was stainless.  Both were excellent guns and never gave me any problems.  They were both pretty accurate as I remember and I took a couple of deer with the blued version.  I only sold them as I had way too many 44 caliber sixguns.  You will enjoy yours, shoot it and enjoy!

My only Dragoon, its a Silhouette model 44mag 10.5" barrel.  ...the only Silhouette model that I've ever seen.

I still haven't shot this gun, but I think the factory grips it wears are some of the best feeling I've ever tried.  They don't have great figure, but the way they are shaped really fills my hand nicely.  It's been fun just to hold this one and look at it.  It's like a nice piece of tangible art.  I do have one question though.  Is it okay to dry fire Virginian Dragoon revolvers?

I imagine it is safe, but I wouldn't for the sheer fact that there are virtually NO replacement parts available.

Just buy some snap-caps if you want some trigger time.  ...they are cheaper than parts that you many never find.

You may still find replacement parts at either Numrich or Brownells if needed.  I would bet they still have a pretty good inventory.
