45 Colt Carbine ?
« on: October 12, 2008, 12:36:14 PM »
I bought an H&R 45 colt Carbine at a gunshow yesterday, HX prefix, last 3 numbers engraved in the underlug of barrel match last 3 numbers on the frame. The frame interior finish and firing pin hole size look like an SB2 frame, but it has the case hardened coloring of the SB1 frames, which is it? Also will an H&R recoil pad fit inplace of the brass butt plate? My 20GA tracker II barrel locks up like it was factory fitted to this frame (pre-remington) but I don't want to shoot the shotgun with a brass butt plate. I bought a box of Winchester 250 gr. Cowboy Action rounds, shucks that is just plain fun!   JamesIII

You mean it has the case coloring of the SB2 Buffalo Classic!! ;D That's because it's the same frame, not all Pardners are case colored, but all Buffalo Classics are, rest assured it's an SB2 frame, same as any other SB2 H&R, just case colored instead of blued.

The only way to put a recoil pad on it is to use a slip-on or cut the stock off square and install a grind-to-fit pad, both are discussed in the FAQs and Help sticky, spend some time there, it will be very rewarding. ;) If it has a brass butt plate, it's something new or a special model, they normally have a case colored steel plate.

You'll enjoy it, mine shot 250gr bullets at just over 1900fps, but I rechambered it to 460S&W and restocked it with a set of gray laminates with a recoil pad.

Does it really have a brass butt plate? Please post pics, it's the first I've read about, I have a brass trigger guard and spacer on my 45-120 Buffalo Classic, a brass butt plate would be a great addition!! ;)

thanks,

Tim

As usual, you are correct Tim! It is the case colored butt plate.  JamesIII
