.357...rifle bullets?

I was wondering if one had a single shot rifle chambered in .357 mag, is it possible to shoot the ".35 caliber" rifle bullets? I noticed in the catalog the bullets in the rifle section say .358 dia. I have never heard of anyone doing this and it may be a stupid question. Im pretty sure you can but wont until I get the "go ahead".

Also what would be the heaviest bullet a 24" 1-14 twist .357 mag barrel could stabilize?

Most of the .358 rifle bullets will work in the 357 mag provided that the throat will except them and there is proven data to support the loading you chose .

I shoot both 180 and 200 grain bullets in my 1 in 18 twist Handi rifle with very good results , as with any loading you need to start with good data and work your way up on your loads .

I've shot 245 gr bullets in my 357 max.  with a 1-14 twist.  I don't know if the mag would be able to get the velocity high enough to stabilize them though.

I plan to use a bullet that is as heavy as possible at around 1050-1100 FPS. I want some heavy subsonic loads.

Your going to need a faster twist.  It doesn't sould like you have a barrel yet. I would look at ssk's website.  They are the ones that pioneered the idea with contender and encore.  The designed several cartridge for this application.  I see that they list the 300 whisper (the original), 338, 375, 416 and 50.  I think that they may have others as well.  They would be the ones to talk to.  I believe that they provide reloading data with the barrels.
