mosin 91/59
« on: October 14, 2008, 03:10:02 PM »
My local store is offering these at $149.99. Is this a good price? I did some research on these and found they are somewhat rare? Also one site said they are the most accurate of all mosins. How is this true since they are just chopped 91/30's? Should I buy one?

I don't know about the price since I haven't seen one around since I got mine last winter and i only paid around $90 since it was marked as a 44.  I do know that I was amazed at the accuracy; under 2" at 50 yd. with military ammo, iron sights and my eyes!  I picked up some soft point ammo that I need to sight in with.  Of course I never had a 38 or 44 to compare it against.

I've found them to be pretty accurate....more so than the 44's or 38's I've had.  Still not as good as the 91/30, but every rifle is different.

$149 seems a bit high, but not too bad if the condition is good.  You don't have to pay shipping and you do get to see it face to face as opposed to pics only on the internet.

If yoiu have 7.62x54 ammo, get it.  If you think it's $20 too much or whatever, big deal, if you want it, get it.  I guess I'm trying to say "just get it"

Once you have it, then the board members can help with bullet selection, loads, etc.  Some of the SP ammo out there is junk

Hmmmmm, a nice 91/59 for $149....I'd bite if it passed the inspection.  The 91/59's a re a tad more rare and can command the $150 tag relatively easy IF it is in good shape, original and matching.  I'd buy it non matching as well as it has been refurbed as you are aware.

I've a good collection of Mosins (mostly shooters) and would buy the 91/59 at that price.  I have C&R and would still pay shipping on one to get it to my door and it would be sight unseen....so $149 when you know what your buying is fair--in the range.

Once again if it IS nice you would be able to sell if you don't like it and virtually lose nothing.  Whats the harm?

Thanks for the info, I'm getting one this weekend. I'll let you all know if it's a shooter before the weekends over.

I went to get my 91/59 and they were all out. I don't know how many they started with but the guy said they sold fast. I couldn't leave empty handed so I bought a M91/38 in excellent condition for $99.00. I spent a total of $140.00 after tax,a box of ammo and a case. I'll give it a good cleaning and it's shooting time tomorrow. I'll let you know how it shoots. oh yeah i'd better remember my ear plugs
