1st Handi at The Halfway House
« on: October 14, 2008, 06:41:10 PM »
After waiting almost three weeks, my new Ultra Cinn Lam 308 arrived from Bud's today at my transfer dealer. I got my first look at and held my first Handi today. I was very pleased with it. There was a touch of gray in the stocks color which I liked very much. What I was not expecting and didn't want was a checked stock. I guess I just live with it! Maybe I"ll take a grinder to it and paint it yellow!  ::) j/k -g

Congrats! Maybe you should offer to trade the stock set for a smooth set in the NEF/H&R classifieds, all laminated Ultras except the t-holes have checkered stocks.  You can also order the smooth set from H&R in cinn or camo, then sell the checkered set.  ;) Of course refinishing them to match the frame better as Fred did makes for a nice, trim stock set that is very pleasing to the eye and handles well.

I guess I should take her on a few test rides before forming any opinions. It may grow on me. And also anything drastic like a coating of Stimpy yellow or red!  When I was doing the transfer there was a handful of shop talkers hanging out. From across the shop they spotted my new Handi when it was pulled out of the box and came on down asking "What that?" I know it caught there eye and they must have liked the looks of it and seemed to be impressed. ( I was) After I told them it was a NEF-Handi rifle I got the snob treatment with nothing but an "Oh" and them walking away without another word. The guy doing my transfer kinda of chuckled to himself and said I'll sell them 800 dollar rifles all day long if they want to spend it, but I know what you got there and I have a few myself. He just smiled and that just made my day.
I tell you what if it were not for my family and freinds I'd be outta California. Most of the people here are not friendly and just rub me the wrong way. The 10 day count down begins and can't wait to take a deer or pig this year with my new "Oh" Handi.  :D
