In going back and researching Powell concerning his address to the UN under the direction of Bush, it is understandable why he has pulled away from the Republican machine. He was lied to concerning intell about Iraq, and has publicly acknowledged his regretting his remarks made at the UN justifying the invasion of Iraq.
He was sold a bill of goods by his boss (Bush), and his "world credibility was used' in an effort to sell the war to others. Very few bought into the lie concerning Iraq, and it in the end made not only Bush look bad, but Powell also.
Powell did the only thing he could do morally. He distanced himself from the Bush machine by resigning, and basically leaving politics. This took courage, and even though I do believe Powell is a very "liberal Republican" not however, on the same plain as McCain. I believe, unlike McCain, that Powell is honest. McCain on the other hand is double minded.
In looking back to the presidential primaries I pondered why we ended up with such a poor quality candidate when there were a couple of really good candidates available. In reading the posts, which I believe is an accurate reflection of the American voter, I realized that all supported different candidates and there was no real unity among the forum members. The shiny side was what was viewed of each candidate, and almost never their actual voting records if they even had one. Everyone seemed to support someone different, and there was constant jumping from one candidate to the other, while the SOLID CONSTITUTION & BILL OF RIGHTS candidates were ignored and seen as, not being flashy and "charismatic enough" despite what they were saying.
As I said, I believe this forum is a good illustration of the American voter as a whole, and for these reasons, we are faced with a very "inferior candidate", that instead of being a problem solver, is actually part of the problem. Still he will garner votes, but given this latest set back with Powell, I believe his colon with be cleaned metaphorically speaking of course, and it will be much deserved given his past voting performance over the last 26 years.
Perhaps after we have endured 4 long years of Obama, Americans will unify, and actually take the time to select an HONEST CANDIDATE, over an EASY ONE, that Washington D.C. loves to furnish them. JMO
As far as drawing any wrath from anyone for my opinion, that is expected. Most times I consider the source coupled with their beliefs, and will not be swayed by the popular movement of the masses, and will instead concern myself more with what is right.
