Green Pepper problems!!!!
« on: August 03, 2008, 05:36:08 AM »
My Green Pepper plants are growing big and tall and all have many peppers. The thing is they are all the size of peas and do not seem to be getting any bigger. I have grown Green Peppers every year and they have always grown well. I just do't get it. Dale

Well that is funny. I was out at the garden a little while ago and like over night I have a few peppers that are the size of golf balls. I look at the plants every day and I think I would have noticed these ones. Dale

I had a bumper crop of Green Peppers this year. They all got big and we really for the first time have more than we can use. Dale

I put a little 10-10-10 on mine.  It really helps.

I do nothing but continer gardening and have all my peppers hanging upside down in 5-gallon containers.  I also use 10-10-10 and it does help.  Mine is feed Miracle -Gro through a drip system and that seems to help plenty.  Last year before I built the "Hanging Gardens" my pepper never got bugger than a gold ball. FWIW, the Hanging gardens are the only way to go.

I grow most of my stuff in big pots that I scrounge up.  I did put a few plants in the ground this year.  My broccoli and collards are coming on strong.

Here it is, Oct. 7, and I just got thru eating one of the best salads out of my garden all year. Gr. peppers, tomatoe's,both cherry and regular, Zuchini. Not enough to can, so I'm just giving some of it away, to friends. Will have enough cabbage to put up some pigs-ina-blankets, probably not enough to make a crock of saurkraut. Still better than buying that stuff.  gypsyman

I picked up a tip for the sorry peppers in a gardening secrets book. Sulfur is the key. The book says to put the heads of a pack of paper matches under each plant. It does work. I am not absolutely sure but I think peppers like a more acidic soil. That's the only reason I could think of for sulfur.

Ditto on the Green Pepper bumper crop here...My Zuchinni's were a bust as they had a bunch of blossoms but very few Zuchinni despite a fair amount of pollination by honey bees.
Then one day (early in the season) they just up & died before the Squash bugs could even get to them ???

Different kind of pepper problem.

Reading about peppers reminds me of a little mistake I made a few weeks back. A friend gave me a bucket full of various kinds of hot pepper.I like to cook with it so I usually cut it up and remove the seeds then freeze it. One morning I decided to get busy and cut up a bunch of it. After I was done with it and cleaned up I washed my hands very good twice. Later that morning I went to the woods to clean up a few trails and clear a shooting lane by a deer stand. While doing so I wiped sweet from my forhead and face. Big mistake a few second after wiping my head felt like it was on fire. The pepper was still on my hands after several washings. When I got back home I washed my face to stop the burning. When I got done I had to take a leak needless to say it was an interesting evening after that.It was around 95 degrees that day but it felt like it was 195 in the southern region.
