7mm 08 range report
« on: October 14, 2008, 02:42:06 PM »
I took my Handi 7mm 08 out Saturday with some handloads I loaded last week to get the rifle sighted in prior to deer season. The range where I shoot is a friends front yard and I only have a 50 yard shot. Just as I was starting to run low on ammo I took 2 last shots and got a 2 shot group at 50 yards of 7/16". I think the rifle would do even better than that since I didn't work up several loads to try I just loaded 43.9 grains of H414. This should be fine for Oklahoma whitetail. I have included a picture. Yes that should do nicely. It will be cool to see how she does after you figure out her favorite diet.

I did a few reloads om my 7MM-08 and it seem the barrel like a bullet with a running start;I loaded a few about 15 thou off the lands low FPS side and the pattern open up back to the max: 2.800 and I can get them to clover leaf at the 100 yard target from the bench.
I still going to try a few more different powder I now tried IMR 4831 and IMR 3031
3031 seem to do o.k. I think I am going to look at some IMR4350 for load testing.

I just shot my 7mm-08 2 hours go, and I was dazzled, as always, as to what it does.  I was shooting Rem 140 gr. Corlokts (which I'm not totally fond of) in a very light quartering wind.  She clover leafed at 100.  It is one heck of a caliber.  I hope, soon, to reload for it and possibly find out what it can really do.
Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.

I don't think I've heard a bad report on the 7mm-08 yet.  I've had good luck and groups in all 3 of the rifles I've got for it, BLR, Savage and Handi.  DP
