scope Mount Rings for a CZ 453
« on: October 12, 2008, 07:16:49 AM »
Just tried to mount up my new scope on my CZ 453..The Bell lays on the barrel.. I bought the Leupold 54231 rings in a med... I cant find them yet on their site to see if they are available in a tall.... So who has another soloution to my new delima?  I can order the CZ rings..Or I hear that CZ make's their own, also. But I wonder how tall to order? HMM..Who has and how did you mount your's. I have the Leupold 4X12X40 to mount..And with the AO it needs more room. Thanks Drop.

I went with a Weaver base and Burris Med Quick Release Rings so I could use my scope on a couple different rifles...

Millet makes rings for the dovetailed receiver, you may be OK with the medium but surely with the high rings.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

I mounted a Weaver T24 24x40 to my 453 Varmint using CZ medium rings (.555"). The issues that you run into are 1) some CZ453s (453 American) are 3/8" dovetails and others (453 Varmint) are 11mm; and 2) bolt clearance. If the bell didn't clear then the bolt wouldn't have either.

Anyway the formula is: (objective bell diameter - tube diameter)/2 = the minimum ring height from base to the bottom of the tube. If that's a Leupold VX-II 4-12x 40mm Adjustable Objective then MidwayUSA specs the objective bell at 46mm (that seems suspiciously small to me). 46mm/25.5= 1.803 inches.
(1.803-1)/2 = .402" as a minimum height. But that probably won't give you enough clearance for the bolt handle to clear the eyepiece. I'd go with .550 for a minimum ring height even if it looks a little high. Bolt handle clearance is the one thing I dislike about CZs.

Note: Please double check the objective diameter before ordering rings.

I tried to measure the objective bell..as close as I can get it with a small metal ruler is about 55mm.... And the rings set down on the rail measure 10 mm high...And you are totally correct the bolt doesnt clear. These are the Leupold medium rings..And I have the tall on order..I sure hope these do the trick. I dont know how tall they are... I might be back to the drawing board ...again....Drop
