early contender rifle forearms
« on: October 20, 2008, 05:46:03 PM »
I have an older contender with a 23" .223 bull barrel? Where can I find a synethic, pacymer, or wood forearm to fit this barrel? It has the 2 screw forearm but my rynite forearm from my 14" 7/30 will not fit. Will the g-2 forearms work on the older frames? The end of the barrel measures 13/16ths across.

The G2 forearms will fit the earlier frames, but I'm not sure what the barrel channel is offhand.  An alternative would be to get a wood forearm and, using a dowel of the proper dia. and sandpaper, enlarge the barrel channel to fit.

Rifle barrels and pistol barrels have a different mounting hole pattern, the pistol being shorter. The G2 rifle forearm will work with the older frame but sometimes needs relived a little on the inletted frame area which is not hard to do. The forearms for I make are made to work with the old or new frame.

The distance between the holes is about 1/4 longer for the 23" barrel. The hole closest to the trigger is in the same location for both barrels. I just went thru this same problem with a custom walnut forearm that was supposed to fit a 23" barrel but was sent to me with hole drilled for a 14" tube.
