express sight on FA 97
« on: November 03, 2008, 05:01:43 AM »
I recently received an express rear  sight from FA, and installed it on my model 97 using a small white dot to mark the centerline, with a fiber optic front sight it works like a Heine straight eight sight. For me it really improved my sight picture. i was thinking on going to a red dot sight, buy my results with this combo is so good, I am going to wait on the red dot. For those of us with aging eyes, I highly recommend giving this a try. Best Regards, Makilly

Makilly

I know what you mean.  I actually just received my model 83, 6", 44 mag, express sighted gun the other day, but haven;t had a chance to shoot the thing yet.  Boy, it's a sweet piece of metal though...

I have a Ruger single six hunter that has sights I just love.  They're express type sights with a thin white line down from the "crotch" of the rear sight.  I'm trying to figure out how to do something similar with my FA and maybe your idea is worth a crack.  I actually emailed Bob at FA a picture of the Ruger sights, with the suggestion that he consider the addition to his express sights.  I never got a reply, so I'm guessing he wasn't too keen on the idea.  That's a shame because that inexpensive addition cold make a huge improvement on his guns.

If I figure anything out, I'll let you know.

Thanks

MR

I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about, but the express rear on the FA's has a groove down the centerline to facilitate painting it if you want it thataway.

The express rear sight that I received did not have a line down the center either, however John at FA said Magnaport would scribe a line and fill it with white epoxy paint. That was my intention until I added the white dot which works really well with the fiber optic front sight. The dot I used is the same size as the front.  best regards, Makilly

You are both correct, at least as regards the 97's.  I looked, and they don't.  The line is either on the express sight of my 83, on a regular rear blade, or else I dreamed it.  Any are possible.
