Lami fore end

While doing some tinkering this past weekend, I decided to see if a fore end from a 243 that had the cinnamon lami stock and fore end would fit on the .17 HMR.  I knew the stock would bolt up so tried the fore end first.  At first try it wouldn't drop on.   Once I snugged the two screws that hold the plastic part on, it would fit on the barrel, but there was noticeable drag when the action was opened.  Looking at the original synthetic fore end, I noticed it was all molded, without the screwed on piece.  So should I remove a bit from the back end of the fore arm, or use as is?    Or is just an accumulation of tolerances?

Never mess with the forend itself if you don't have to, flat sand the spacer's flat side, spacers are cheap, forends aren't and it's a lot easier to keep the spacer square than doing the same on the end of the forend. This is covered in the FAQs and Help sticky, it can be shimmed if it's too loose also.
