209 load info for Encore
« on: December 19, 2008, 01:47:34 PM »
Just starting to work on a hunting load and hoped I could shorten the learning curve here...
 I have 1. CCI primers(209M)
          2. Rem. ML primers
          3. 50 g Pyrodex pellets
          4. 30g  Prodex pellets
          5. 777 loose powder
          6. 777 50gr pellets
          7. 250 gr TC shockwaves
          8. 250 SST 's
          9. 250 gr Barnes MZ's
Anyone got any recommendations for starting loads with these components. I have always shot a Knight Disc but won the Encore in a Turkey Fed. drawing. Thanks for any help... coop

Yup Either 2 50gr pellets  or 100gr loose 777ffg and a 250gr sst or shockwave... It has worked in mine and my son's. I have found the loose to be a little hotter in 100gr. It shoots one ragged hole in mine at 100 yds 3 shot's and in my son's it shoots a 1 inch 3 shot group. But wet patch it and 2 dry patches between shots.. And oh yeah I use 777 primers..they leave less crud ring.

I use the 2 50gr pellets of 777 a 250gr sst low drag sabot and 777 primers. 3 shots no swabing in between one ragged hole. Swabbing in between one wet one dry 1 1/2" groups 100yds. Shot a 150 to 175 lb doe at 25 yds ran 10 complete pass through. I'll stay with this load.
squeeze it, don't pull it!!!!

2 50gr Pyrodex pellets and a Barnes 250gr MZ Hollow point.  With Winchester 209primer. Sub MOA. They Load Hard But do the Job Very Well.

In my encore the SS/T low drags load hard in a clean bore-next to impossible in a fouled bore. I load the the ss/t in a clean barrel, then have a shockwave in (super-glide sabot) my speedloader. Both shoot the same POI.

In my Encore I Use:   Win 209 primers, 100gr loose 777, Tan Nosler sabots, Hornady 240 gr XTP's

At 50 yds targets, it makes one ragged hole.

On deer the 240 gr XTP's work great. I have killed several deer with this bullet, both out of my Encore, and .44 Mag 14" Contender.

110 gr loose 777 and 195 gr double saboted Dead Center ignited by CCI400 in 25acp breech plug equals 1" or less @ 100yd for three shots with a pass with a spit patch in between.  I have several pretty good rifles that won't do that. GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt  :D
