Lee pro 1000
« on: October 25, 2008, 04:26:26 PM »
Well folks i just spent last week making 500 rds of 9mm and i took them to the range today and they all went bang. 2 different pistols not one jam or misfire. Once i got the little pro 1000 figured out and the dies set it was truly a pleasure. But not as much a pleasure as making my first 9mm's go bang.

Congratulations!  I got my start reloading with a Lee Pro 1000 in 9mm also, and it has served me well for many years now.  It is still my go-to press for 9mm and .45 ACP.  I suppose I could spend a ton more money and get a Dillon or some such, but I'm satisfied with how well the Lee performs.

I've got a Pro 1000 set up for .45acp around here somewhere. I have been thinking of setting it up to load 9mm. I load .45acp on a Load Master now. I have been shooting a lot more 9mm in matches these days. Makes it hard to keep up on a turret press! I may just go ahead and get a .40 conversion while I'm at it. I have been shooting a lot of that too lately. Only problem I have with the Pro 1000, is that it's only a 3 station.------Just reminded myself of that-----! Guess I'd better get another Load Master set up for small primers, that way all I'll have to do to change over is change the shellplate and turret---------hummmm. Need a bigger bench too!

Savage, what do you want the 4th station for - separate crimp die or something else?  Just curious since the 3 stations have never been a limitation for me, but then I've always been happy with the results of the seat+crimp die.

I use a lot of range brass. The thickness of the cases vary considerably. To insure function in any pistol I might use them in, I have found the Lee Factory Crimp Die is good insurance. I use it to crimp as a separate operation from seating. I use the LFCD for everything I reload, including rifle. If you don't want to add the forth die to your process, be sure and buy a chamber gage to check your loaded rounds to make sure they will function properly. I loaded for a couple of years with a Pro 1000. I would put the LFCD in a single stage and run all my loaded rounds thru it. It's that important.

I also use a lot of range brass (mostly for the 9mm) but I've never had a problem with my loads in any firearm I've used them in that was due to crimp.  OAL, sure, but not crimp.  Perhaps I've just been lucky.

justashooter,
If you are not having ammo problems in your guns, great! .45acp brass is a bigger problem than 9mm.  I use the LFCD on all my ammo for the peace of mind. When you start running into rounds that won't chamber you'll know what to do. Good shooting!
